Things to Do

Horse Riding

What better way to explore the scenic mountain range then to go horse riding. Suitable for all ages and skill levels, the Snowy Mountains offers a range of guided treks such as Cochran Horse Tracks and Reynella Kosciusko Rides. The Reynella Rides hold Ecotourism certification and are NPWS Eco pass license holders, perfect for those looking for eco-friendly activities. Ride along the rugged terrain and see for yourself the inspiration behind Banjo Paterson’s poem The Man From Snowy River.

Bushwalking and Hiking

Kosciuszko Alpine Guided Walks features a two day walk and an overnight stay at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa. Stand at the top of Kosciuszko after climbing Mt. Kosciuszko on the Kosciuszko Summit Walk. The rugged, isolated beauty of Kosciuszko National Park, dotted with wildflowers, will leave you refreshed and ready to hike the summit of Mount Kosciuszko with the Thredbo Guided Tour Walks. Beginning at the top of Kosciuszko Express chairlift and crossing diverse environments from the rocky terrain of Rams head Range to the headwaters of the Snowy River, take the gradual climb up the old road from Rawson’s Pass all the way to the top of Mount Kosciuszko. The adventure does not stop there with Pallaibo Walking Track in Kosciuszko National Park offering the perfect spot for a picnic. Photography lovers will relish the opportunity to capture the stunning lake views and wildlife whilst Sawpit Creek picnic area and Thredbo River Picnic offer great spots to sit back and enjoy the picturesque scenery.

Abseiling, rock climbing and caving

Explore the mountainous terrain with abseiling, rock climbing and caving. K7 offers these activities for all ages and skill levels. The activities take place on the top of Kosciuszko Express chairlift and other locations such as Signature Hill, 3 Amigos, and Blue Lake. Snowy Mountains Climbing School offers abseiling and rock climbing over the rugged rock outcrops of Thredbo. Journey into the depths of the Yarrangobilly Caves and explore the uniquely spectacular limestone formations. Caving is an experience for all to enjoy with both guided and self-guided tours available of caves such as Jillabenan Cave, South Glory Cave or Jersey Cave. Stay overnight in the majestic Caves House or charming Lyrebird cottage, both located in Yarrangobilly Valley.

Mountain Biking

With its high plains and alpine wilderness, the Snowy Mountains has always attracted mountain bikers. Both beginners and seasoned cyclists can enjoy a variety of bike trails including Pipers Creek and Smiggins Trail, The Tumut State Forest Mountain Bike Trails and Perisher Trails.

Great for beginners, Pipers Creek and Smiggins is a fairly easy trail to navigate with smooth rises and open terrain. For those looking for more of a challenge, The Tumut State Forest Mountain Bike Trails offers four trails to explore. If exercise in your main goal, then riding along the dirt roads of the Perisher Trails is perfect for working out. If exercise is not your thing and you would rather take in the pristine beauty of the surroundings, then Lake Jindabyne Foreshore Trail is the perfect choice. Close to town and only 7 km long, this shore-line ride is great for the whole family to enjoy.
